A week late on the St Patrick’s Day episode but none the less it’s time for a movie that made the dull portion of the history syllabus cool, 1996’s Michael Collins. Myself and Dean take a dive into the dense history of 1920’s Ireland and the struggle for independence in what may just be the most Irish episode we’ve ever done with references to GAA based torture methods, The Spire and the League of Ireland. We do our best to break down why this very acclaimed movie in Ireland didn’t quite land with American audiences and why exactly Julia Roberts doesn’t fit here beyond that terrible Irish accent. Hopefully this isn’t too much for our non Irish audiences but do enjoy folks
