In a week where we saw a shambolic Oscar’s ceremony where terrible telecast structuring choices and a celebrity slapping incident overshadowed the very deserving movies and people involved with said movies that won Oscars I decided to talk about what I believe to be THE best best picture winner of the 21st century so far, 2019’s Parasite. Bong Joon Ho’s masterpiece of social commentary, suspense and class divide. A film that serves as the ultimate calling card of the Korean New Wave. Also you get a passably average retrospective on the history of Korean Cinema in the 20th century and what led to the new generation of Korean filmmakers that took a post Military dictatorship South Korea and plunged it into a 20+ year and counting golden age of cinema that crosses genres and eventually the Pacific Ocean making a splash in Hollywood and changing the game.
