Today Maya Nelson, RMHCI, joins the Flare Up Show to talk about heavy topics with bravery, a lot of heart and even a few laughs. She shares what trauma-informed care is, and how it should look, then we look at a few specific areas there is a risk of trauma and pain such as race-based trauma, LGBTQ2IA+ affirmative care, and generational trauma.
Maya is the Silent Syche and you can find her easily here: https://linktr.ee/silentsyche. She has resources as well as her services available as well as a support group for black women. "FAM noir is the safe, free and therapist led group made to ease the tensions of black femaleness through Afrocentric resources and cultural authenticity that only melaninated queens could understand."
Maya is a University of Central Florida grad with a background in intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, the child welfare system, and at-risk youth. In between those, she has experience working with clients of varying backgrounds, gender identities, religious beliefs, family systems, and relational statuses. Maya's goal in therapy is to clear the fog of mind that stops clients from seeing the strength, courage, beauty—and ultimately—answers in themselves. If her eclectic counseling style and tele-health based services fit your budget and needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
