On Palm Sunday, inspired by a podcast by Bishop Irenei Steenberg about Abba Dorotheos of Gaza, Fr. Matthew Howell preaches about the meaning of our Lord Jesus Christ's glorious entrance into Jerusalem. He quotes St. Dorotheos to explain the meaning of palms, branches, and why Christ rode on a donkey. He then focuses on how the donkey represents the irrational soul and how we must bring it into subjection to Christ. Along the way, he explains the meaning of the word "Gospel", refers to Geico insurance commercials, quotes from St. Paul's epistle to the Philippians and from Joshua 24, uses a scene from the movie Shrek to illustrate a point, tells a made-up story about the return to the stable of the donkey that carried Christ, and points to the joy of the Paschal midnight.
