Description

Yo! This week we are talking about an important and influential hardcore/metalcore band that absolutely rips and has been a major part of both of our lives... the incredible Every Time I Die!

ETID has also touched the lives of so many others, be they fans or fellow musicians or the city of Buffalo itself, and has continued to be innovative and impressive over a storied 23-year career. Before we get into this episode, we want to note that this topic was decided on well before the band decided to call it quits. We had lots of back and forth about whether we should actually follow through with this episode before recording as we didn’t want to seem like we are profiting off of their breakup. In the end, we decided that this band is massively important to us so we went ahead with it. With that being said, we chose NOT to talk about the breakup in-depth or any of the gossip surrounding it - this episode is a tribute to a truly great band and nothing more.

In this episode, we break down almost all of Every Time I Die’s discography, from the 90’s metalcore/screamo inspired “Last Night In Town” to the outstanding, politically charged final album “Radical”. We unpack each album and share our favourite tracks and the various memories we have that are connected to them. We also chart the band's growth over 23 years of making music and share our experiences of seeing them live and meeting the band members. Plus, we take a walk down memory lane to revisit the Myspace era and chat about the untouchable periods in the history of both Ferret Records and Epitaph Records. We also talk about all the bands that ETID has influenced, Vans Warped Tour, their signature sound, their impeccable lyricism and songwriting, their consistent evolution, “’TID the Season”, the band getting a day named after them in their hometown, and a whole lot more.

We chat about how influential and important they were in our teens and about the run of “Ex Lives” to “From Parts Unknown” to “Low Teens” and how incredible it was to experience as adults. We also drive home the fact that ETID leveled up with every album and has been consistently putting out dope music. We unpack the final album “Radical” and the potent political content that marinated through the pandemic and became something even more poignant and important upon its release. We gush about the surprisingly emotional “Map Change” video and how it was the last song played on the last real Warped Tour ever. We also rant and rave about songs like “Underwater Bimbos From Outer Space”, “No Son Of Mine”, “We’rewolf”, and so many more. This band has so many songs that rule... We could have done a three-part series on this band if we wanted to. We also realize that we were at the same ETID show years before we became friends and talk about their incredible live performances, their live show atmosphere, and their fanbase. We are so thankful to have been around to experience this band. Thank you Every Time I Die. You’ve changed our lives. Please consider supporting the band members going forward in whatever way works best for you.

RIP ETID 1998-2022.

We’ll see you next week!
