Hi. I'm Beverley of Simply Story Poetry. This Christian poem tells of several sad and painful situations Jesus experiences while he was here on earth and His words that comfort us today. I wrote this poem following the death of my nephew as a young adult by suicide. I witnessed the agonizing pain and unanswered questions that my brother, his wife and their family had to process over the following years. The overwhelming guilt and shame that follows a suicide are horrific, on top of the grief of the loss itself. Although I knew this poem was inadequate to comfort them, I needed to research and write about God and Jesus' pain. The hole that is left in their hearts and lives is tragic. I released this poem for Anzac Day 2021, to also remember those who gave their lives in war to secure Australia's freedom and peace. Lest we forget.
This poem includes reference to John 9 verses 1-3 when the disciples ask Jesus "Whose sin caused this man's blindness?" In the poem, I follow these conversational verses with gracious and encouraging words from Jesus based on a few favourite Bible verses.
