Hi, I'm Beverley Joy of Simply Story Poetry. This Christian devotional poem is inspired by the Bible story, in John chapter 9, of the blind man who was healed by Jesus. When the man returned from following Jesus' instructions to wash, the people who saw him asked him in amazement about his healing. They took him to the Jewish temple to show him to the authorities, who kept questioning him about how and who healed him.
I have published another poem that includes John 9 verses 1-3 titled 'God Knows Firsthand Your Pain' from verse 9+ (April 23, 2021). I wrote this poem following the death of my nephew as a young adult by suicide. In John 9 verses 1-3 the disciples ask Jesus "Whose sin caused this man's blindness?" I follow these conversational verses with gracious and encouraging words from Jesus based on a few favourite Bible verses.
This new poem focuses on our spiritual blindness before being spiritually healed by Jesus, and how our colleagues, friends and family recognize and question the change in our behaviour and our outlook on life. I wrote this poem while I was a Prison Chaplain and shared it in a prison chapel service as the message was centered on this Bible story.
