Abusive, toxic, exploitative, narcissistic and manipulative people are really good at seeming like victims. They frame their narratives to paint themselves as the "good guy" who is being persecuted or who has had a string of bad luck. Targets of manipulators and liars tend to be highly empathic people who identify with pain and struggle. They want to help, lend an ear, cut them a break, offer support or become romantically interested. This video will illustrate the ways narcissistic and toxic people become victims of their own messes and why they choose this tactic for manipulating their targets.

Mandy Friedman, LPCC-S, CCDVC, is a licensed professional clinical counselor and certified clinical domestic violence counselor. Mandy is the creator of the educational program SNAP: Survivors of Narcissistic & Abusive Personalities. This program teaches survivors and concerned loved ones about abusive personalities, targets of abuse, abusive relationships and life in recovery from abuse. SNAP educational program of recovery helps empathic survivors of abuse fine tune and connect with their empathic nature in order to preserve, harness and protect the very things abusers seek to destroy. In her private practice, Clermont Mental Health, Mandy specializes in treating survivors of Cluster B personalities. She is also familiar with the role of addiction and substance abuse in abusive relationships. Mandy’s clients are often in need of trauma-informed care as part of their recovery. This has led her to become specialized on the topic of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). To help her clients, Mandy utilizes mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychoeducation.
