In this episode, along with special guest, Barry Taylor, we discuss otherness through the lens of a lecture he gave where he discussed Richard Kearney's book "Strangers, Gods, and Monsters." We talk about the complicated nature of being a human being which necessitates a relationship with the strange other, as well as the monsters that reside both within us and outside of us. We also broach the variety of ways that we create gods from the altars of that which we worship. Without providing much in the way of concrete answers, we explore questions and ideas surrounding the how we relate to one another during these times of seemingly great division. So please enjoy this offering of complexities.
Barry has a wide range of knowledge that he gives us a glimpse into during this discussion; however, if you would like to continue to experience his brilliance, check out his latest book "Sex, God, and Rock'n'Roll" and his website, ukbloke.com, for more insight into his world view.
