In episode 304 we had the pleasure of speaking with Kristen and Lamia. Kristen and Lamia are sisters who created Kids for Culture, which is a company that creates products to help children feel good about themselves, their families, and their communities; while also exposing children to differences, unfamiliar things, and experiences beyond their immediate lives. The two sisters believe teaching diversity increases cultural competence, which in turn allows children to be empathetic to the experiences of others. In this episode we discussed how the business got started, how to begin teaching children about racism and diversity, the right time to start the conversation, the famous doll test of 1940, and more.
