Description

There’s a part of our food system that’s not rarely discussed and, that is racial inequality. The separation of land, government subsidies, and financial resources that are available favor white farmers. Meanwhile, many of America’s sustainable farming practices actually stem from African and indigenous roots. Since the 1940s African-American farmers have lost over 10 million acres of land. Combine this with the fact that Black communities are also at a higher risk of illnesses due to a lack of access to fresh, nutritious food. It’s food injustice.

This week on Do Something Good Today, we’re joined by Doug Adams, founder of New Brooklyn Farms to dig into the life of a black farmer. We discussed why Doug got into farming, how can federal policy enable healthy food access, methods to prepare for a food shortage, how Doug financed his farming land, and more. This is an episode you don’t want to miss.
