Not Brown enough to be Brown, not Fijian enough to be Fijian, definitely not white, so it feels like we have no ties; no ties to India, no ties to the Fijian community here because in order to do that you need to live in North Delta or Surrey, be a part of Fiji soccer or a ramayan mandli, and speak Hindi regularly. Watching Bollywood movies, wearing Indian clothing, and making visits "back home" were the measures used to determine how valid your Brown Card was. The self-appointed authorities on this have presented themselves in many different forms to us as we've grown up.
