Description

Continuing our visit to the Motor City, in this week’s show we conclude our clash of the Motown titans as we see how Stevie Wonder followed Marvin Gaye’s lead with 1973’s ‘Innervisions’. As ever the fascinating background to this album gives us plenty to sink our teeth into, not least of all the bold decisions that Stevie took to get the creative control that he desperately wanted, and how he played Berry Gordy and Motown like a fiddle in the process. We also talk about how a near-death experience in the immediate aftermath of the album’s release led to a change in Stevie’s outlook on life and one of the album’s songs taking on a greater significance as a result.

In our latest ‘video killed the radio star’ Kev takes his love of a typeface to another level - and to a different format - as we take a look at another highly innovative yet unheralded video.

We also, as is customary, score our two albums and find out which will emerge victorious - and there are a couple of surprises in store as we do…

Finally, it’s Kev’s choice for our next clash and he reveals the next stop on our virtual road trip of famous musical cities. Clue - we aren’t travelling very far…
