This radio adaptation of Chekhov’s 1887 short story “An Avenger” is based on Proctor’s stage adaptation, also titled “Settling the Score,” which was adapted from Constance Garnett’s English translation of Chekhov’s Russian text. Chekhov’s story and Garnett’s translation, first published in 1921 in “The Horse Stealers and Other Stories by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov,” are in the public domain.
