Listen

Description

This is a must listen to episode! We had the pleasure of speaking to Amy Schlueter about her adult autistic son Alex. We discuss the transition from young adult to adult, the guardianship process, systemic issues during the transition, and how we all look down the path of where our kids will land when they head out into the world. Amy is insightful and inspiring in the way she views not only the world but her approach to an autism diagnosis.

Amy is a mom of two kids. Her daughter Hannah is 27, and her son Alex is 25. Alex has autism. She is married(30 years), and the family lives on a lake in NW, Iowa.   She has a master's degree in Nursing and had a great career with a lung transplant team, but stopped working after Alex was diagnosed.   She became a stay-at-home mom to help Alex get the services he needed and also to help Hannah have as normal an upbringing as possible.

Alex has pursued his passion for art and has amazing art pieces on the family's website. Go check out the beauty that he has created.
