What happens when your last child will never leave home? Jean Olney discovered that when Gabe was born with a traumatic brain injury. Her freedom from motherhood, that she could almost taste, was tragically dashed, catapulting her into an unfamiliar and unimaginable role as a forever full-time caretaker for a totally dependent child. Gabe cannot walk, or transfer from the wheelchair to bed or bath. He can’t feed himself or talk in a way that anyone other than family can understand. Western medicine and insurance has little to offer so Jean manages with craft and creativity. And through it all, she and her family have grown. Their lives enriched in ways previously out of reach, resulting in lives much more worth living.
