How do we hear this text of the Beatitudes fresh? Blessed are the meek, the poor in spirit, those who mourn. But what will they gain, really? Something in some ethereal future? Perhaps recalling old stories of blessings might help us hear the promise of a world coming not one day in the by-and-by, but a world that is already here and happening now.
