On the evening of May 25, 2020, Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, killed George Floyd, a Black man, by kneeling on his neck for nearly 10 minutes. The incident, captured on video by bystanders, sparked what may be the largest protest movement in U.S. history and ignited a national conversation about race and policing.

Back in the late 1990s, I went through a similar experience in Chicago. Let me share my story.
