Bailey Seamer is a woman on a mission. Her 'Wandering Minds Walk' is a 5000km trek along the east coast of Australia to raise mental health awareness and fundraise $100,000 for the Black Dog Institute.
When first diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Bailey was looking for any glimmer of hope that she could have a good life with it. When failing to find many good role models, she has set out to be the kind of person she needed when she was younger and suffering.
She wanted to do something that would prove the capabilities of people with mental illness.
She set off in May 2022 and is traversing the eastern coastline of three states to the most northern tip of Cape York Peninsula in Queensland.
When she arrived in my hometown, I interviewed her about her mission.
We dive into her own personal journey with a mental illness, how she came up with the idea for this trek and how she followed through on it! Along with discussing the challenges she faces and how it's changing her, and the ways people and serendipity are supporting her journey.
She also shares her lived experience, perspective and advice on how to cope with challenges and also support people struggling with mental health issues.
This is one moving conversation with an incredible woman.
I expect you will enjoy it as much as I did!
