According to the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, a person convicted of a felony offense is barred from serving on a jury during the term of his/her sentence. However, there is debate as to whether this right is automatically restored upon release from sentence. M.C.L.A. § 600.1307a (1) (e)

Laws excluding those with convictions from serving on a jury reduce the chances that a criminal defendant will have a “jury of his peers” and will more likely have a jury of people who are starkly different from him or her.
The status of a person’s current criminal charges and or criminal history does not and should not determine their ability to serve on a jury for the rest of their life.
