Description

Hannah and Emily will be taking a quick break from posting new episodes during the month of October 2022. Please enjoy one of their favorite, older episodes in the meantime!

In this episode of The Up-Beet Dietitians, Emily and Hannah are joined by Kristina Parrish, a sports dietitian and fellow Purdue grad. Kristina discusses how to become a sports dietitian, including her own experience and how she went from a volunteer as an undergraduate dietetics student to the Director of Sports Nutrition at East Carolina University. Kristina also talks about the importance of pre- and post-workout nutrition and she provides some examples of foods you might enjoy before and after your workouts.

About Kristina: I grew up in Northwest Indiana with my parents and younger brother. My parents always encouraged me to live an active lifestyle, so I was always involved in various sports. I played soccer, volleyball, and basketball in my younger years but ultimately stuck with swimming & running. In college I continued to run on the Purdue Running Club team & also participating in a few triathlons. This is when I found my love for sports nutrition & how fueling your body can help, or hurt, your performance. I volunteered with the Purdue Sports Nutrition department where I continued to grow & learn in the sports nutrition field. I also worked at the Purdue Athletic Dining room (with Emily & Hannah!!).  I went on to do my dietetic internship/grad school at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. My first job out of school was a sports nutrition intern position at the University of Virginia. This position rocketed me into the nitty grittiness of sports nutrition, especially in the collegiate setting. I then continued my career at Rutgers University, & now serve as the Director of Sports Nutrition at East Carolina University.
