Description

Is there believable unity in a racially divided world? Can racial reconciliation happen in the church? This past Sunday we were pleased to welcome a guest speaker to RVCC Parkland. Lonnie Arnold is the associate pastor at New Salem Baptist, a predominantly black church in Tacoma. Recently, Lonnie invited a few white pastors and some fellow black pastors to join him for a conversation. That initial exchange led to further gatherings as they helped each other broaden their perspective, and that first group has expanded to six groups of multiethnic pastors talking, growing, and dreaming about what churches working together could mean in our community. He is currently the founder and director of the Racial Reconciliation Network. As we've begun to talk about our desire for a church that reflects our community, we’re simply trying to live out Jesus’ call in John 17 for unity. We believe that if our church is going to make a difference in our community, it should also reflect our community.
