In Matthew 17:20 we read of Jesus saying, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

I have shared the following quote a couple of times before on these podcasts, but today it occurred to me that it may be a key in helping us understand something of what Jesus meant regarding faith as small as a mustard seed. Here’s the quote by theologian and philosopher Peter Kreeft:

“I strongly suspect that if we saw all the difference even the tiniest of our prayers make, and all the people those prayers were destined to affect we would be so paralyzed with awe that we would be unable to get up off our knees for the rest of our lives.”

Just think of that. So you’re walking down the street and someone comes out of a store in front of you. You send up a flash prayer for God to bless that person. It’s a tiny prayer. It only takes about a second. But in that moment you entered into agreement with God's desire to bless every person on earth. You thereby released his power to do so in that individual’s life. A single domino of blessing is tipped over and that begins a series of good effects that impacts everyone who crosses that person’s path and in turn those people’s paths and on and on it goes doing an incalculable amount of good on into eternity. All that from the tiniest of prayers, a smidgen of faith.
