Suppose you are reading a historical novel. It is interesting enough to where you can hardly put it down. A trusted friend sees what you’re reading and says, “that’s a interesting book, a real page turner, but there is a monstrous lie woven into it towards the end.” Before your friend has time to explain, he has to leave.
Think about this for a moment: I am quite certain that for the rest of the book — in the back of your mind — you would be thinking about what your friend said and looking for it.
This is something like what I think Jesus had in mind for us in alerting us to the lies and deceptions that are going to precede his second coming. They are going to be so stealth that Jesus warns us, “Watch out that no one deceives you….Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning…Be ready…stay alert….See, I have told you ahead of time.”
We do well to keep his warning always on our minds while the story we’re all in is being played out. There is a monstrous lie slowly being unleashed on the whole world by the spiritual underworld. We must stay alert and be looking for it and remain steadfast in our walk with him.
