In yesterday’s podcast I read a passage in which the apostle Paul gave us the goal of why he proclaimed Christ: “so that we may present every person mature in Christ.”

Let’s see if we can flesh that out a bit by asking, what is a mature Christian?

Two indicators come to mind:

A mature Christian is someone who no longer questions his or her preciousness to God — the conviction has become as solid as rock. And the reason I see this as being critical is because everything we could possibly want to be for God flows from knowing that truth. The fact that we may not be sure of it indicates that we still have a lie active within us, and to that extent our friendship, loyalty, and service to God will be compromised.

Secondly, a mature Christian sees to it that his or her whole life is devoted to helping others know how precious they are to the Lord as well. That is to say, the truth is so dear to us that we can’t help but give it away.

So if these two indicators hold up, where do you see yourself on the spectrum of Christian maturity if a number “1” you’re just getting started and a number “10” means you’re all over it?
