Description

Whenever my heart is not at rest, full of peace, and joy, I am allowing something other than the love, promises, or purposes of God to dominate my thinking.

I’m allowing myself to believe that if this or that situation were “resolved” I’d be just fine.

But that’s a lie. Our hearts can find rest only in God — in his love, promises, and purposes. Like one guy put it, “Trying to fill the God-sized hole in our hearts with things other than God is like trying to fill the Grand Canyon with marbles.” (Peter Kreeft)

So what must I do?

First of all I must confront the lie and say something like this to myself: “I’ve been telling myself that ‘if only this, and if only that, I’d be at peace.’ Not so. That’s a lie. I reject it.”

Secondly, I must keep bringing my attention back to simply trusting God in the middle of what I’m going through — trust His love for me, trust in His promises to me, and trust in His purposes for me and then be thankful for his constant presence and care.
