At the heart of all we do to help others experience the love of God, must be this: “submit yourselves, …to God...”. Why? Because Jesus himself said that he did nothing of His own accord, He did only what He saw His father doing. So with us. When it comes to anything we do to help others open up to God, unless Jesus has spoken or acted we must not speak or act. Anything short of this and we are playing god, imagining that we know enough to know what needs to be said or done in a given situation.
What does it mean to do only what we see Jesus doing? In Proverbs 3:17, we read of wisdom that “all her paths are peace.” Now consider the fact that Jesus is called the wisdom of God. It follows then that, at minimum, to act only as Jesus leads means we make sure that what we are about to say or do flows from a place of perfect peace within us.
