Description

In Matthew 16:25 (NIV) we read that Jesus said, 25 “…whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”

Someone has said that ultimately, the only thing you take with you when you die is what you gave away. Think of it this way: when death comes, it takes everything you’ve got. And if all you have is what you’ve got then, sure enough, you lose everything. But what if you give your self away before death comes? That is to say, what if you give your self away by using your self to bless others? Now when death comes, it finds nothing to take from you because your thoughts, words, actions have already been given away in helpfulness to others. So, you lose nothing. This is something of what I think Jesus means in this passage. You lose your self in the act of using your self to benefit others in making life easier for them. In so doing, you will find yourself participating in the very life of Christ because his is the only life that gives, and gives, and gives again to the benefit of all creation. And it is a life that cannot be lost for it has conquered death.
