“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).”

One of the most common expressions I hear from believers facing a difficulty is “God is with me.” It is usually said with gratitude and is clearly a comfort to them. And so it should be because it’s true. “In him,” writes the Apostle Paul, “we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28) And Jesus promised, “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
But has the thought ever occurred to you that not only is God with you, but that at all times you have his undivided and complete attention as if you were the only being in existence besides him?
You see, unlike us, God's mind is such that he is not limited to thinking of one person and then another, one event and then another. He can give undivided and complete attention to everyone and everything all at the same time.
This means that when you think of him, you are merely looking up to someone who has already long been thinking of you without a moment’s distraction.
So when you look up to the Lord today in gratitude or supplication or acknowledgement, pause for a moment and reflect: he is thinking of me — right now — giving me his undivided and complete attention.
I’m presently working on reminding myself of this very thing and already I sense something good in it that I can’t explain. Try it and I think you’ll notice it too.
