It seems to me that, taking into account various passages of scripture that reference God’s grace, we could define like this: God’s helpfulness freely given. What is the help he freely gives us? Here are some things to reflect on:

1. He freely forgives our sins;
2. He freely gives us a new heart so we can know him and start our life over;
3. He freely fixes up the messes we’ve made and keep making;
4. He freely empowers us to cheerfully bear with stuff we don’t like but can’t change;
5. He freely gives us wisdom for any decision we bring to him;
6. He freely guides and strengthens us to deal effectively with temptation;
7. He freely authorizes us to use his name to shut down all influence from the kingdom of darkness
8. He freely enables us to always be helpful to anyone who comes to our attention.

With realities that beautiful and freely given, little wonder that the Apostle Peter ends his second letter on this note: “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
