Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) — “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Where do we get such confidence and assurance? From trusting in the promises of God. In other words, the more our lifestyle reveals that we believe that God will do precisely what he says he will do, the greater our faith.
How do we come to believe that God will do what he promises? By actually trusting him to help us with specific difficulties and challenges we face.
Here are some proportions as to how I think our faith grows.
- The more you trust him to resolve problems in your life, the more he’ll come through for you;
- The more you see him come through for you, the more you’ll realize he keeps his promises;
- The more you realize he keeps his promises, the more you’ll know he loves you;
- The more you know he loves you, the more you’ll share your innermost thoughts and feelings with him;
- The more you share your inner life with him, the more your friendship with him will grow;
- The more your friendship with him grows, the more his love will flow through you to others;
- And the more his love flows through you, the deeper your joy and God’s joy in you.
