If in the world to come, eternal hell and death is the wage of my sin — what I justly deserve — then can any amount of trouble I face in this world somehow be more than I deserve? No matter how bad, will it not always be far less than I deserve?
And isn’t it stunning that right this moment I’m not burning in the lake of fire for my sinfulness? Isn’t that fact alone reason enough to openly weep with amazement and joy that, clearly, my life is being held in the hands of unimaginably great mercy?
Ezekiel 33:11 — “Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’”
