A reading from 1 Peter 4:7-10 (NIV)
7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
One thought in that passage stands out to me as being exceptionally beautiful is this: be a faithful steward of God’s grace. It is as if God has put in our hands something immeasurably valuable — his very own kind and tenderhearted attitude towards others. And so, writes the Apostle Peter, manage it well. In effect, be very careful what you do with it. Don’t let anything you think, say, or do, reflect anything less than the overflowing, freely given, helpfulness and encouragement of God.
