Description

Consider what having an endless supply of something means. Let’s suppose that you had an endless, infinite supply of money to give away. If you gave someone a million dollars, would that cut into your supply? No. Your supply is infinite. That million takes nothing from you. You could give away millions upon millions and all you would be doing, in effect, is moving it around, allocating it. As for your resources, nothing whatsoever would change because, again, your supply is endless. It would be as though you gave nothing away. It can never be cut into. It cannot be diminished.

God's resources are like that. Let’s pick just two: patience and kindness. He can lavish patience and kindness on anyone and everyone in endless abundance and it poses absolutely no difficulty for him. They are never diminished.

Now notice what it means when someone says something like, “my patience is wearing thin” or “I’m running out of kindness.” It means their supply is limited. They gave some away and now they have less to give. That’s understandable because they are relying on human resources and such resources are indeed limited.

But for followers of Jesus to say such things is to confess that they are still drawing on what’s in them instead of the person of Jesus within them. We need to consciously close the human account and draw all the patience and kindness we could ever need from Jesus for everyone in our lives.  As needed, a simple prayer will do, “Your patience, Lord, your kindness, Lord. Let it flow through me right now.”
