Colossians 3:1-4 (NET) “…if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth, for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him.”

The word “preoccupy” is defined as “to engross the mind to the exclusion of other thoughts.” That could be detrimental in the case where someone needs to stay on task but is preoccupied with something else. But I suggest that there is a kind of preoccupation that needs to become chronic our lives — a preoccupation with two realities, what the Apostle Paul refers to in our text as “things above.” The first one is with Jesus and learning to walk with him as our best friend. The second is a preoccupation with what Jesus would have us do in helping him help others become all that God created them to be. So it is Jesus and working with him as his friends that must engross our minds day in and day out. We must never let other interests get the upper hand on what we think about.
