Today I got to thinking about my marriage and what precisely my responsibility is towards my wife. In short order, an answer came to me.

I asked, So what is my purpose in my marriage? Answer: I am to live for one thing: to pray, think, say, and do, whatever it takes to create optimum conditions for my wife to be all that Christ is calling her to be.

Then as I thought about that, I wondered if my purpose in marriage is any different than what my purpose is in any relationship in my life? In other words, isn’t it true about everyone we know that we are to pray, think, say, and do, whatever it takes to create optimum conditions for them to be all that Christ is calling them to be?

The only difference I can see is that each relationship is a different context, but the purpose, it seems to me remains the same. In short, we are to always be all that we can be, to help others become all that Jesus wants them to be.
