Description

  1. We always have multiple desires clamoring for our attention at any given moment.
  2. From a moral standpoint, they come either from you—"the desires of the flesh" or from the Holy Spirit—"the desires of the Spirit."
  3. If we are true believers, we will notice that we most want to do the "desires of the Spirit." That is to say, more than any other desire we want lives full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
  4. However, what we most want to do will only become what we choose to do by thinking more about the desires of the Spirit.

Why? Because thoughts are what feed desires.

  1. The more we think about a desire the stronger it gets, that is to say, it produces more thoughts about itself more frequently.
  2. The stronger it gets the more it begins to command our attention.
  3. The more it commands our attention the more our choice to act on it becomes spontaneous, impulsive, or even instinctive.

Consequently, notice how incalculably important it is to direct our thoughts to the desires of the Holy Spirit.
