Proverbs 4:23 — “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Here are three ideas for guarding your heart.
Relying on the Holy Spirit, first, guard your heart from unworthy impulses or desires that come from within you. Redirect them to the Spirit for him to destroy.
Second, guard your heart from questionable suggestions or impressions that come from around you. Rely on the Spirit to do whatever it takes to instantly “turn the page” on them so to speak.
Thirdly, ask God to give you a trustworthy friend to team up with in guarding your heart, someone with whom you can share your ups and downs.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV) 9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
