In yesterday’s podcast I said, in effect, that all of us who claim to follow Jesus must live in such a way as to be able to say, Jesus is always at his work and we also are working. And by that I meant working with Jesus in creating optimum conditions for everyone in our lives to experience more of their preciousness to God through us.
Now the question might be, how do we know how to create such optimum conditions? First lets think about the fact that Jesus spoke of “seeing” what his Father was doing and copying that. How did he do that?
Here’s what I think was the key. In the messianic passage in Isaiah 11:1-3 (NIV) we read the following:
1 “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him —
3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD.”
I’m persuaded that that is where Jesus got his knowledge of what his Father was doing. This wonderful Spirit was God’s liaison, if you will, whereby Jesus was kept constantly informed of precisely what his Father was about.
So then what is it for us to “see” what Jesus is doing so as to copy that? Here’s what we read in 1 Corinthians 2:12: “…we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things that are freely given to us by God.” Beyond all doubt we can be assured that God wants us to live our lives doing only that which we see Jesus doing. Such a desire God will never deny. So, like Jesus, we need look no further than that very same Spirit that we too have received from God. That wonderful Spirit will not only inform us but help us work with Jesus in creating those optimum conditions for everyone we know to become more aware of how much God loves them.
