What the Bible refers to as the fallen “self” in us is whatever in us would favor what we want to think, say, or do over what God wants us to think, say, or do.
Hence Jesus’ call to “deny oneself” or “hate ones own life” or the apostle Paul writing that we are to “put to death” whatever belongs to our earthly nature is directed at that fallen “self” in us.
