What is the greatest, the most important truth in the whole world? I’m persuaded it is the message of Jesus’ life and teaching. The Apostle John concentrated it into one sentence. Here it is:
1 John 1:5 (NIV) — “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”
In other words, God is perfectly good. We can completely trust him and be at rest in his presence forever.
If that is it then the greatest lie in all reality is that God is not pure light; that there is a measure of darkness in him — something that cannot be trusted, something unsettling.
If the lie were true, and the ultimate reality was a being vacillating between good and evil, then nothing matters. Life is absurd.
But if we believe Jesus’ message, then there is only one way for us to demonstrate that God is indeed pure light: it is to completely trust him, at all times, in all situations, and for our every concern.
