What does it mean to be a true friend to Jesus? This is number 3 of a series of five propositions I wrote up for myself in answering that.

Number 3 is to work with him in having others know something more of how precious they are to him.

In Galatians 2:6 we read that “God shows no partiality.”  Now there’s no question that he works with certain people groups our individuals first in the interests of reaching everyone else through them, and to me that explains what the biblical expression “the elect” means. But being totally impartial reveals to us that the Lord never does anything more or less for any one person’s ultimate wellbeing than he does for anyone else’s ultimate wellbeing.

So as you listen to the following verses, see them as applying to every man, woman, and child. Hence, in working with Jesus this is the message I want to deeply impress on others.

• Jeremiah 31:3 — “The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
• Isaiah 49:15-16 — “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.”
• Romans 5:8 — “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
