In 2 Corinthians 4:6 we read, “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
Then, in Luke 19:10 Jesus tells us what he — the embodiment of God's glory— came to do: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
I think it could be said that the essence of God’s glory therefore, found, as it is, in the face of Jesus, lies in his greatest intention.
He never does anything that, in an ultimate sense, is simply for his own sake or benefit because he has need of absolutely nothing. When he commands our worship or obedience, total allegiance or trust it is only because apart from these we are lost and cannot enjoy the fullness of life he so yearns to overflow our lives with.
