Description

Psalms 16:11 reads, “You will show me the path of life.”

In John 8:12 Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

In the realm of the Spirit as in all of life’s relationships, friendship with God, that is, proximity to him is experienced to the degree that there are shared interests and values. That means that to the extent we become a certain kind of person whose interests and values align with God’s, to that extent we experience friendship with God.

Jesus is constantly working on growing our friendship with him. He does so by opening our eyes to see in him what we both need and want to be. So what has God revealed to you of Jesus that you want to be?

For that matter, fill in the blank: Name three qualities you see in Jesus that you like so much that it would be intolerable for you to imagine not having them?

Then the question is, what is the straightest path to becoming that kind of person?

We have it in John 2:5 — “His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.

So that is the path of life, the light of life. Who you are in fact becoming comes down to this: the next step you take. And bear in mind, what Jesus tells you to do he empowers you to do.
