In Hebrews 3 and 4, the writer draws our attention of the unbelief of the Israelites by with they forfeited entering into the Promised Land. Even though Caleb and Joshua gave them a positive report about conquering the land, the people did not share the faith in God that Caleb and Joshua had, so the good news meant nothing to them
Hence we read in Hebrews 4:2 — “The Good News was preached to us just as it was to them. But the message they heard did not help them, because they heard it but did not accept it with faith.”
One commentary reads, “Hearing a message of good news does not guarantee that what has been promised will be received.” (Word Biblical Commentary)
So how do we make sure we will receive what God has promised us? What is it to hear or read the Word of God with faith? What is that faith? Simply put, it is to believe that God keeps his promises. You will always receive what God has promised to do for you or in you if you believe that what God says he will do he will most certainly do.
