Isaiah 26:3-4 (ESV) reads, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.”
Allow me to repeat this quote that I’ve shared before, written by Celeste de Blasis
“There are people who live lives little different than the beasts,
and I don't mean that badly.
I mean that they accept whatever happens day to day without struggle or question or regret.
To them things just are, like the earth and sky and seasons.”
Now let's ask the question, What does that kind of acceptance towards the everyday things of life look like? It seems to me it is to be able to say that nothing in your circumstances or in someone’s life has to be anything other than what it is for you to be inwardly quiet and at peace.
This mustn’t be confused with passivity which can amount to indifference. For that matter, the opposite is true: we care more than words can say, and are hard at work and prayer at all times to see situations and people go God’s way, but here’s the point: all the while we accept what is. Nothing has to happen for us to be inwardly quiet and at peace.
How do we come to this settledness of spirit? By keeping our minds on Jesus — by directing our thoughts, concerns, fears, and worries to him in trust and thanksgiving that he will resolve what needs fixing all in his good time. Listen to it again: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.”
