In today's episode, we reference an excerpt from The Book of Joy, Book by 14th Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Douglas Carlton Abrams. The excerpt deals with the improbable story of Anthony Ray Hinton, a man that was arrested for a murder he did not commit because - according to the officers that arrested him - he was Black. Mr. Hinton spent 30 years on death row in a prison in Alabama until the Supreme Court finally released him. Instead of being angry and resentful of the 30 years of his life that were taken from him unjustly, Mr. Hinton forgave all the people that sent him to jail, and pointed out that "If I'm angry and unforgiving, then they would have taken the rest of my life."
This episode explores how forgiveness - even of terrible transgressions against us in the past - play such a critical role in how choose to fully participate in the present, and how we shape our future.
