"I am a drug user." This week, I start the new year off with a monologue on drugs inspired by Dr. Carl Hart, a neuroscientist and psychologist at Columbia University who has researched drug use and drug abuse for 30 years. As Hart says, people are going to use drugs, whether they are legal or not. How can we make them safer for EVERYONE? The answer, as always, is honesty. Our dishonesty surrounding our collective drug use "is killing people." I hear you, Dr. Hart, and I agree. So, this is me talking about my history and present with drugs. From alcohol and marijuana to cocaine, acid and MDMA all the way to caffeine and Prozac. This journey also references New Year's resolutions and the punishment inherent with Dry January. Happy New Year. Be kind to yourself.
