In the age of sixteen, Iqbal passed the matriculation examination. He achieved first division and received a medal and scholarship.

The Scottish Mission School had also started intermediate classes, so Iqbal did not have to go anywhere else for his F.A. He stayed there, and it was during this time that the formal beginning of his poetry took place.
