Today I'm joined by Leigh Carey, CEO of Hummingbird NI. Working on employability and job readiness programs for people with barriers due to mental health issues, she began noticing where changes needed to be made. Using her own experiences of trauma in 2013 she began connecting with others through empathy, understanding and shared recovery journeys. This approach enabled the walls, stigmas and mistrust to be removed. Establishing the Hummingbird CIC in 2016 and attracting others who had lived, learned and practice knowledge of mental health and suicide services was to steer her purpose. Building on their mission of collaboration and learning from others they secured a partnership with PWC Belfast called - Into Tomorrow. Now in its 5th year of development - delivery the opportunity to co-create, design and research the impact of service delivery on those experiencing homelessness is influencing how we measure impact. A real advocate of self care and wellbeing she talks openly about the importance of routine, habits and finding something that brings calmness to your thoughts. Turn this up loud.
